5 years after the triumphant treaty of Tilsit, diplomatic relations deteriorated as both countries prepared for wars. June 1812 Napoleon attacked Russia. His army consisted of 640 thousand people and 1372 guns, directing his main attack on Moscow. It would prove disastrous for Napoleon and the Russian Imperial Army consisting of 597 thousand people repelled the invasion. Ultimately the stepping stone for Russian power and influence after the Napoleonic wars.
