De Roll's Regiment was a Swiss regiment raised in Switzerland in December 1794 by Baron Louis de Roll, a former officer in the French Swiss Guards. It had two battalions, often with ten companies each including flank companies, and was mainly recruited from Switzerland, Alsace, and Germany. The regiment was sent to Corsica in April 1796 and then to Elba. Two companies took part in the raid on the Tuscan coast in November 1796. After being transferred to Portugal in April 1797, the regiment was reduced to one battalion in November 1798. It then moved to Minorca in September 1799 and Gibraltar in October 1800. The Roll Regiment distinguished itself in action during March 1801 at Alexandria and remained in Egypt until June 1803 when it was transferred to Gibraltar.
