In 1997, Cheyenne Mtn Complex, the base fitted with the Stargate, was attacked by an alien force, 4 airmen were killed and 1 captured.

Following this attack, the military retaliated, sparking an intergalactic conflict between alien forces and the people of Earth.

Following this conflict, the USAF had begun the formation of Stargate Command, a top secret MAJCOM responsible for the defense of Earth, with the sole mission to seek out new technologies to combat the Goa'uld, and prevent Earths demise.
