The Galactic Republic was a democratic union of star systems across the galaxy spread across light-years of space. The Galactic Senate governed the Republic under the Galactic Constitution. 
Under the Military Creation Act, the Grand Army of the Republic was commissioned to combat emergence of the Separatist Alliance. The Grand Army is widely considered to be one of the best fighting forces ever conceived in the history of the galaxy, unmatched and unrivaled in war.
