The Ottoman Empire, often referred to as the Turkish Empire, was a vast realm based in Anatolia. It dominated much of Southeast Europe, Western Asia, and North Africa from the 14th to the early 20th centuries, and held portions of southeastern Central Europe from the early 16th to the early 18th centuries.
