Perak is one of the fourteen states of Malaysia, and the fourth-largest one. As one of the oldest Sultanates in Southeast Asia, it descended from the Srivijaya Empire. It remains as the keeper of mythical royal regalias such as Pedang Cura Si Manjakini and the legendary Keris Taming Sari. 

It borders Kedah at the north; Thai Yala Province to the northeast; Penang to the northwest; Kel'antan and Pahang to the east; Selangor to the south, and the Straits of Malacca to the west.
