The Decepticons, led by Megatron, were part of an alien race called Cybertronians - robots that can change into various mechanical forms. They fought against their home Cybertron to oppose the forces of Zeta Prime and the Autobots. General Megatron rallied many city-states to the Decepticon cause hence its major conflict against the Autobots.
