The Imperium of Man is a galaxy-spanning interstellar Human empire, the ultimate authority for the majority of the Human species in the Milky Way Galaxy in the 39th Millennium. It is ruled by the Perpetual who is known as the Emperor of Mankind.

Incalculably large, if not for a feudal system of delegating rule of individual worlds under it's aegis, the Imperium would collapse under it's weight. Formally created at the beginning of the Great Crusade with the Cult Mechanicus in the Treaty of Mars.

The Imperium is beset on all sides by the horrors of Chaos and it's followers, and alien abominations of equal measure. Only through the strength of it's many citizens does it endure under the Emperor's protection.
