The United States Space Force, initially formed as the Air Force Space Command on September 1st, 1982 and becoming independent on December 20, 2019, is the newest branch of the United States Armed Forces. Its mission is to protect the interests of the United States in space, deter aggression in, from, and to space, and to conduct space operations. Space superiority is a major goal of the Space Force.
