In 1813, the War of the Sixth Coalition raged in Germany. The French had the coalition on the run near the border of the neutral Austrian Empire. Austria, hoping to broker a favorable peace, proposed the Armistice of Pläswitz. Napoleon declined the peace terms offered and in consequence forced the 300,000 strong Austrian army into the Sixth Coalition. The Austrian Army had not forgotten their defeat in 1809 and looked to crush Napoleon once and for all.
