This segmented plate armour is most famous for protecting fortunate Roman legionarys during the Principate period. The name of this armour is tentatively debated amongst scholars, with conjecture that it was named so by the Romans, since they called metal sheets 'lamina'. Lorica Segmentata is a term that originated in the 16th century.
