The Model 1858 Enlisted Forage Cap, sometimes referred to as a "bummer's cap," was the standard headgear issued to soldiers of the Union Army during the American Civil War. The cap is characterized by its floppy, cylindrical design with a sloping crown that falls foward and a rounded black leather brim. Constructed from dark blue wool, it features a black leather band and chinstrap, which are secured with brass buttons.
