The Illyrian helmet dates back to the 7th-6th centuries BCE and was used by Greek hoplites and later by the Illyrians. Designed for protection in close combat, it offered a balance between defense and visibility.

Traditionally made from bronze, the helmet has a metallic appearance with a patina that can range from a shiny bronze to a greenish hue due to oxidation over time. The helmet features prominent cheek guards that extend down from the sides, providing protection for the face while leaving the eyes, nose, and mouth exposed. A large quantity of these helmets has been found in Albania.
