The Python 5 is a deep modernization of the Python-4, being an Israeli “dogfight” missile that features a long-burning sustainer that allows for multiple re-engagement opportunities. The most major upgrade is that it replaces the Python-4s seeker with a more modern imaging infrared seeker, and as with the Python-4, it is compatible with the DASH series of helmet-mounted sights. It is also unique in that it does not use thrust vector control and relies on its 18 lifting bodies for its excellent maneuverability. As with many other missiles, it has lock-on-after-launch and high off-bore seeking capabilities as well. (by mac)
