Raised visor of the Black Sallet The "Black" Sallet is a type of helmet worn with a visor predominantly found at the end of the 15th. century. Its name could be reserved due to its role as a mass produced helmet and lack of polish. It is also theorized to have been blued for ease of maintenance, also giving it a black look. Sourced from various surviving samples from museums and the illustrations of the triumphal procession of Maximilian I. It found principal use as a helmet for german cavalrymen of the era, often decorated with paint or a cover made of leather, which could be decorated and sewn to the helmet and visor.
