In the late 3rd Century, a new type of Roman helmet style emerged based on Eastern Sassanid influences. This new helmet style became very prominent in the Late Empire, and despite its simpler design, it was highly effective and gave the Romans the upper edge against the enemies the Late Empire had to face.
